Pullman Education Foundation Emergency Supplemental Scholarship (ESS)

The Emergency Supplemental Scholarship (ESS) program provides rapid financial assistance to students facing sudden, unforeseen personal or family emergencies that threaten their ability to begin or continue their post-secondary education.
To be eligible to apply, applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at least half-time in an accredited college, university, community college, or trade program and fit one of the following criteria:
A current recipient of a PEF-administered scholarship.
A past recipient of a PEF scholarship who received the award within the last 24 months and remains enrolled in post-secondary education.
A Pullman High School graduate from the past 24 months (when authorized by the Board for the current funding cycle).
Grants are intended for sudden hardships such as the loss of a supporting parent or household income, unexpected medical or funeral expenses, loss of housing, or domestic violence. Funding can cover essential educational costs, including tuition, required books and supplies, campus housing, meals, essential transportation, technology, and emergency childcare. Standard maximum awards are up to $5,000 per academic year based on documented unmet need.
How to Apply
Submit the Initial Request: Complete the short application form attached below. You do not need to provide extensive financial records or supporting documentation during this initial step.
Review & Follow-Up: The PEF Scholarship Committee will review your application quickly. If additional details or verification are required, a committee member will contact you directly.
Contact Financial Aid: Applicants are strongly encouraged to also notify their post-secondary institution’s financial aid office to request a special-circumstances review.

Each year the Pullman Education Foundation distributes scholarships to the Pullman High School graduating class. Many of these scholarships have been created as memorials to graduates of the Pullman School District. PEF works with the Pullman High School counseling office to distribute scholarship applications and choose award recipients.
These scholarships are presented at Senior Night, typically held in June of each year.

MARY PAZNOKAS
SCHOLARSHIP $500
Endowed in 1999 to honor former PHS Math Teacher and Assistant Principal, Mary Paznokas, who died of a heart attack while vacationing in Hawaii. Given to a PHS senior who shows compassion for others and effort to improve scholarship.
CLASS OF 1956
SCHOLARSHIP $750
Created in 2002 by Cliffold Oldham, member of the Class of 1948, in memory of his brother, Darrell Oldham. This scholarship is given to a PHS senior attending WSU who shows enthusiasm and contributes to others wellbeing
CLASS OF 1948
SCHOLARSHIP $1000
Endowment established in 1998 at the 50th reunion of the Class of 1948 and initiated by Cliff Oldham. This long standing award is given to a PHS senior attending WSU who shows enthusiasm and contributes to the wellbeing of others.

SCHOLARSHIP $1000
PHS senior attending WSU who shows enthusiasm and contributes to others' wellbeing.
RYAN BRINDAMOUR
SCHOLARSHIP $1000
Created in memory of Ryan Brindamour, Pullman High School Class of 1998 and awarded to a PHS senior male attending WSU who participated in athletics.
JESSICA CLARK
SCHOLARSHIP $1000
Endowed in 1999 to honor Jessica Clark, the daughter of Bill and Stephanie Clark, who died in a car accident and was a 1997 PHS graduate. Given to a PHS senior female who participated in athletics, has a strong work ethic and compassion for others.
KARIN MYKLEBUST
SCHOLARSHIP $1000
Established to honor the memory of Karin A. Myklebust who passed away in 2007 after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. This award supports a PHS senior female who participated in athletics, shows strong work ethic and compassion for others .
CHAPTER S PEO
SCHOLARSHIP $1500
The P.E.O. Sisterhood is an international Philanthropic Educational Organization that promotes educational opportunities for women. Awarded to a PHS senior female who shows excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service and academics.
CORRINE SIMASKO
SCHOLARSHIP $2700
Established in 2007 in memory of Corrine Simasko who was taken by cancer in her senior year at Pullman High School. This scholarship aids a PHS senior who shows a love of learning and perseverance in face of adversity .
FUTURE TEACHER
SCHOLARSHIP $1000
Created in 2018 from a donation in honor of Paul Sturm, former Pullman School District Superintendent and Marge Maxwell, teacher. This scholarship will be awarded to PHS senior pursuing a career in teaching.
SHANE T. & IAN C. WILLIAMS
MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $3000
Established in memory of Shane and Ian Williams, this award will be given to a PHS senior pursuing a career in teaching or special education and shows outstanding potential for the future through their academics, behavior, leadership, and integrity in school and community activities.
